How happy is your workplace?

Fraser Allen takes the wrappers off the brand new issue of Reflect, and ponders the ROI of employee happiness

The new issue of Reflect, our online magazine for Zurich-based Equatex, is out – and everyone is feeling very chipper about it. Wellbeing and happiness is the theme, and the issue is packed with expert advice brought to life with colourful graphics and animations.

Initiatives to spread ‘happiness’ in the workplace are increasingly imaginative in the US – one company even rents puppies out to companies – but in our magazine opener, HR consultant Matt Alder explains why employers should never take their eyes off the safe banker of an employee share scheme.

We also feature Jennifer Moss, who became an expert in ‘psychological fitness’ after helping her lacrosse-playing husband overcome a paralysing illness against all the odds. She now helps businesses discover the ROI of employee happiness.

In addition, another high-profile US consultant, Brandon Smith, explores techniques for building resilience in the workplace and British author Debbie Mitchell provides a step-by-step guide to a sustainable wellbeing strategy that encompasses both fruit AND biscuits. Yum.

Finally, in a truly international issue, we hear personal examples of implementing wellbeing strategies in the workplace from Barbara Martinez of Equatex and Raluca Ciliacu-Hetzer from Fresenius Medical Care. Barbara’s ‘Lucky Lunches’ scheme sounds like great fun.

Reflect initially came about when Equatex, experts in global share plans, saw our own magazine Poppy, and were impressed by our approach to content, design and bright ideas. Since then, we’ve produced nine issues of the magazine, initially in print but now in a highly user-friendly and eye-catching digital format. The White Light team researches, writes, designs and builds each issue. Read the new issue in full here.
